On May 25, Chinese ambassador to Croatia Xu Erwen had a telephone conversation with the head of China Road and Bridge Corporation (CRBC) Croatia branch, which undertook the construction of the Peljesac Bridge project, to congratulate on the successful erection of the first steel box girder on the main pier of the bridge. Ambassador Xu said that the bridge is a flagship project of practical cooperation among China, Croatia and EU, and carries the long-cherished wish of the Croatian people to connect the territories of their country. CRBC has overcome the difficulties of Covid-19 pandemic and made great efforts to push forward the construction schedule while taking precautions against Covid-19, so as to make positive contributions to the smooth construction of the bridge and the friendship between the Chinese and Croatian people. She hopes that all the staff on the project would make persistent efforts to build this "bridge of friendship" and deliver a satisfactory result to the Croatian people. The head of CRBC Croatia branch said that the successful hoisting of the first steel box girder will lay a solid foundation for the subsequent construction, and all the staff will continue to work hard to ensure the smooth construction of the bridge.
On the same day, Croatian Prime Minister Andrej Plenkovic and the Minister of Transport and other cabinet members visited the construction site of the Peljesac Bridge. The premier congratulated on the successful erection of the first steel box girder of the bridge, expressed satisfaction with the construction progress and construction situation of the bridge, and encouraged the Chinese contractors to overcome difficulties and complete the bridge smoothly. The prime minister also praised CRBC for donating money and materials to support the fight against Covid-19 epidemic and the earthquake in Croatia.
