On March 24, Ambassador Xu Erwen lodged solemn representations with Mr. Frano Matušić, State Secretary of Foreign and European Affairs Ministry of Cratia over EU's sanctions against China under the pretext of the so-called human rights issues in Xinjiang, and notified China's relevant countermeasures.

Ambassador Xu elaborated on China's position on Xinjiang-related issues, pointed out that the unilateral sanctions imposed by the EU side on relevant Chinese individuals and entity were based on lies and misleading information, grossly interferes in China's internal affairs, flagrantly breaches international law and basic norms governing international relations, and severely undermines China-EU relations. China firmly opposes and strongly condemns this.

Ambassador Xu said that China's will and determination to safeguard its sovereignty, security and development interests are unwavering. China's decision to sanction relevant EU individuals and entities is a justifiable and reasonable response. The Chinese side urges the EU side to reflect on itself, face squarely the severity of its mistake and redress it. It must stop going further down the wrong path.
