On October 24, 2014, President Xi Jinping announced that the Chinese government will deliver the 4th batch of assistance to Western African countries to help them fight the Ebola epidemic when holding talks with President Jakaya Kikwete of Tanzania in Beijing.
Xi Jinping pointed out that the Ebola epidemic in Western Africa is spreading in a continuous manner, posing realistic threat to the security of life and economic and social development in Africa and the public health in the world. After the Ebola epidemic broke out, the Chinese government and people deeply sympathize with the people in epidemic-stricken areas and have taken the global lead in stepping into the breach and provided three batches of assistance to the countries concerned, showing the sincere friendship between China and Africa who share weal and woe with practical actions. Taking the latest updates of the Ebola epidemic and the demands of the epidemic-stricken countries into account, the Chinese government has decided to launch the 4th batch of emergent assistance by providing urgently-needed supplies and assistance in cash and in kind worth 500 million yuan in total to the three countries of Liberia, Sierra Leone and Guinea as well as relevant international organizations, sending more Chinese experts and medical staff specializing in prevention and control of epidemic, and helping to build a treatment center in Liberia. China is also willing to carry out active cooperation with the international community to help the nations plagued by the epidemic out of the Ebola epidemic at an early date.
