On May 8, 2026, Ambassador of China to Croatia Qi Qianjin attended the opening ceremony of the “The Marvelous Journey to the East: A Marco Polo-themed Exhibition.” The event was attended by more than 100 guests, including representatives of the Croatian Ministry of Culture and Media, the Director of Trakošćan Castle Museum, Cao Huajun, Deputy Director of the Yangzhou Municipal Bureau of Culture, Radio, Television and Tourism, and Shu Jiaping, Director of the Yangzhou Museum.

Ambassador Qi said that the exhibition is a vivid reflection of cultural exchanges between China and Croatia. It will showcase to Croatian audiences the essence of Chinese civilization—that each civilization has its own beauty and all civilizations thrive through mutual appreciation of beauty. It will also serve as another bridge of friendship between the two countries.

The exhibition is jointly organized by Trakošćan Castle and the Yangzhou Museum. Through artifacts and documentary materials, it presents Marco Polo’s experiences in China as well as the history and culture of China during the Yuan Dynasty. The event was covered by the Croatian News Agency (HINA), Croatian Radiotelevision (HRT), and Xinhua News Agency.
