On May 12, 2017, President Xi Jinping met at the Great Hall of the People with Prime Minister Beata Maria Szydło of Poland, who was in China for the Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation.

Xi Jinping pointed out that Poland was one of the first countries to establish diplomatic relations with the People's Republic of China. The traditional friendship between the two peoples is consolidated. China regards Poland as an important cooperation partner in Central and Eastern Europe and European Union, and is willing to continuously enrich the connotation of bilateral comprehensive strategic partnership with Poland. The two sides should maintain the momentum of high-level exchanges, expand dialogue between the two governments, legislative institutions, and political parties, insist mutual respect, mutual trust and equal treatment, as well as maintain the general direction of sound and stable development of bilateral relations. The two sides should enhance cooperation in sectors like infrastructure construction, transportation, logistics, finance, environmental protection and high technology, and promote more balanced development of bilateral trade. The two sides should strengthen the cooperation in fields of culture, education, tourism and locality, as well as promote people-to-people and cultural exchanges.

Xi Jinping stressed that China appreciates Poland for actively supporting and participating in the "Belt and Road" construction. The two sides should deeply tap the integrating points between the "Belt and Road" initiative and the national development strategy of Poland and promote the constant deepening of bilateral cooperation under the framework of the "Belt and Road" construction. China hopes that Poland can play a positive role in EU and promote the in-depth development of China-EU relations. China advocates to forge the "16+1 cooperation" mechanism into an important interface for the integration of the "Belt and Road" initiative into the European Economic circle and to turn the "16+1 cooperation" mechanism into the preferential area for the launch of the four major China-EU partnerships and the new growth pole for China-Europe cooperation. China expects Poland to further enlarge and solidify the "16+1 cooperation" mechanism and promote greater development of the "Belt and Road" construction and China-Europe cooperation in Eastern Europe region.

Beata Maria Szydło stated that Xi Jinping's visit to Poland in June, 2016 effectively promoted the Poland-China relations and mutually beneficial and win-win cooperation between the two countries. The "Belt and Road" initiative proposed by President Xi Jinping is of great significance to the world balanced and sustainable development, and is important to Poland. Poland is willing to actively participate in cooperation in infrastructure construction under the framework of "Belt and Road" construction, and carry out cooperation in sectors like investment, high technology, tourism, and culture. Poland believes this will benefit the connectivity and trade of Poland and Europe with China.

Wang Huning, Li Zhanshu, Yang Jiechi and others attended the meeting.
