On May 13, 2017, President Xi Jinping met at the Diaoyutai State Guesthouse with Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif of Pakistan, who is in China for the Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation.
Xi Jinping pointed out that China always takes China-Pakistan relations as a priority of its own diplomacy and is willing to continue to enrich the connotation of China-Pakistan all-weather strategic cooperative partnership with Pakistan. The two sides should maintain high-level exchanges, and intensify exchanges and mutual visits at various levels including government, legislative institution, and political party so as to promote the development of China-Pakistan relations. The two sides should vigorously promote the construction of China-Pakistan Economic Corridor, steadily push forward the Gwadar port and surrounding supporting projects, speed up the study on the construction planning of the industrial parks along the corridor, step up the completion of the long-range planning of the corridor, and promote and well implement cooperation in transportation infrastructure construction, energy, people's livelihood and other projects. The two sides should strengthen cooperation in the areas including anti-terrorism and security, and closely coordinate and cooperate on major international and regional affairs. China looks forward to conducting in-depth cooperation with Pakistan within the framework of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO).
Nawaz Sharif said that Pakistan and China enjoy concrete traditional friendship. Pakistan has unanimously supported the deepening of Pakistan-China relations and participation in the "Belt and Road" construction and cooperation. Pakistan is willing to work with China to actively promote the implementation of the projects of the Pakistan-China Economic Corridor, and steadily promote cooperation in infrastructure, energy and other areas such as the Gwadar port. Pakistan will continue to, together with China, intensify coordination and cooperation within the multilateral frameworks such as the UN and the SCO, and make efforts to international and regional stability and development.
