On May 13, 2017, President Xi Jinping met at the Great Hall of People with Prime Minister Najib Razak of Malaysia, who was in China to attend the Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation.
Xi Jinping pointed out that China and Malaysia are not only close neighbors facing each other across the sea, but also good friends and good partners featuring mutual trust, mutual respect and win-win cooperation. At present, China-Malaysia relations are in the best period in history. China is willing to, together with Malaysia, well plan the development blueprint for bilateral relations, and push China-Malaysia comprehensive strategic partnership for more fruitful outcomes.
Xi Jinping stressed that in recent years, leaders of both countries have maintained close communication, and firmly held the strategic direction for bilateral relations. Both sides actively integrate the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road with Malaysia's economic transformation plan, continue to enhance the construction of the Qinzhou Industrial Park and Kuantan Industrial Park jointly created by China and Malaysia as well as the interactive development, and steadily advance cooperation in major projects including relevant industrial parks and railways. China stands ready to, together with Malaysia, strengthen cooperation in such fields as education, culture, personnel exchanges and tourism, and constantly deepen cooperation in law enforcement, security, anti-terrorism and other fields. As an important country along the ancient Maritime Silk Road, Malaysia is the earliest country responding to the Belt and Road initiative, and also one of the countries that benefited the most from it. China expects to push forward more actual effects during the process of the "Belt and Road" construction for the two countries.
Najib Razak totally agreed with President Xi Jinping and expressed that Malaysia and China are not only neighbors, but also friends. The Malaysian side is glad to see that the important cooperation consensus between both countries is being implemented. The country stands ready to be committed to advancing Malaysia-China relations towards a higher level, greater depth and a wider scope, and reinforcing cooperation in such fields as trade, investment, infrastructure construction, people-to-people and cultural engagement, anti-terrorism and security. The Belt and Road initiative is a historic one that will bring huge changes to the region and the world at large. The Malaysian side is willing to actively participate in relevant cooperation.
Wang Huning, Li Zhanshu, Yang Jiechi and others attended the meeting.
