Wang Yi: China Opposes Any Foreign Intervention in Hong Kong Affairs
2014-10-02 09:00

During his visit to the US, Foreign Minister Wang Yi clearly expounded China's position on relevant Hong Kong affairs while meeting with the US leaders in the White House and the State Department.

Wang Yi stressed that Hong Kong affairs are completely internal affairs of China. Outside forces have no rights to interfere and should all respect China's sovereignty, which is also a basic principle governing international relations. The core of the current situation in Hong Kong is that some people deliberately hold unlawful assembly in the busiest blocks, severely interrupting the social order. No country or society will allow such illegal acts that defy the rule of law and harm the public interests. It applies to the cities of the US as well as Hong Kong of China. We ask the US to speak and act with caution, abide by the promise of non-interference with China's internal affairs, and send no wrong signals to the outside world. We believe that the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region has all the abilities to properly handle the current situation in accordance with the law.
